Please Sponsor me! I have registered for AIDS Walk New York and this year I am pleased to announce that the families living at Food First Inc. Conover House will be able to benefit directly from any donations we collect this year. Because of the decrease in the City's funding to our program, I must find supplemental funding, and that means I need your help. AIDS Walk New York, is a start! Food First, Inc is a not-for-profit organization, whose commitment to serving HIV+ persons and families began in 1990 as a charitable organization, providing goods and services to both the poor locally and abroad. Over the years we have provided thousands of clients with an array of social services. By 1995, we became determined to provide an enhanced living environment for those chronically ill and developed and pioneered a supportive Housing model for families with HIV/AIDS in which permanent Supportive Congregate Housing units were integrated into one building, alongside units of low-income working tenants, allowing the building to remain "stigma free".
In 1996 we opened the doors of Conover House, a 36 unit dwelling , located in Red Hook Brooklyn, which integrated 20 units of low-income housing with 16 fully furnished, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartments for candidates diagnosed with clinical symptomatic HIV illness or with AIDS, and their families. Living together in one building, Conover House clients were able to live independently with the support from an array of social services, with working tenants, without the stigma within the community that was often attached to HIV/AIDS Congregate Supportive Housing facilities.
Since opening Conover House we have provided our clients with a variety of groups, trainings, workshops, and an array of social services. In addition to housing services we continue to offer intensive case management; counseling; permanency planning workshops; nutritional education, counseling and cooking classes, meals, psycho-educational support groups, financial planning; job readiness; employment assistance; on and off site recreational activities; as well as advocacy and referrals for any services not available on site. All program services are available in the social service program space, which is located on the ground floor, in a private section of the building, which allows the confidentiality of our clients to be maintained.
Food First, Inc. enhances the quality of life for our clients by taking a proactive role to ensure that they are provided with essential goods and services. We have always believed that through empowerment and education, individuals can rise above their circumstances and lead fulfilling lives.
We would be so grateful for any help you can offer. Please consider sponsoring me for AIDS Walk New York, or if you prefer to walk with us, please join our team Food First 1902. And please tell your friends!
You can visit my personal fundraising web page by going on the website and selecting my name. It's quick, easy, and safe to make a donation online with a credit card, debit card, or PayPal. If you wish to send in a check, it can be addressed to AIDS Walk NY, but put Food First, 1902, and my name in the memo line so that the funding goes to the right place.

Thank you for supporting AIDS Walk New York and for helping put an end to this epidemic.

Warmest regards

Erin Feely-Nahem
